Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A Texas man who led a violent gang that funneled a unique form of fentanyl into Jackson has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison.

28-year-old Tamarious “Poogi” Faulkner of Houston admitted to leading the Thorough Bred Family, a street gang responsible for trafficking hundreds of grams of fentanyl into the city.

The fentanyl they sold had a distinctive rock-like texture, and came in unusual colors like yellow, purple, and blue. Authorities say the drug led to a spike in overdoses and violence across Jackson.

Federal prosecutors say Faulkner also dealt in illegal weapons, including stolen firearms.

The investigation began after a string of gun store thefts in 2019 and ended with a 2020 raid that uncovered several stolen guns in Faulkner’s home.

Six other gang members have already been sentenced between five and ten years behind bars.
