Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced Friday that the open carry of firearms at Michigan voting locations is prohibited on Election Day.
Benson said, “Fair, free and secure elections are the foundation of our democracy.” She went on to say that she was “committed to ensuring all eligible Michigan citizens can freely exercise their fundamental right to vote without fear of threats, intimidation or harassment.”
Attorney General Dana Nessel and Michigan State Police Director Col. Joe Gasper have informed law enforcement agencies statewide, providing guidance on safety and security issues on Election Day.
