Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A recently reported occupational death took place in Jackson on April 30, 2025 according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA). That was the day when a 46-year-old student support specialist was found unresponsive with a metal file cabinet on top of them.

Emergency services were called, and the employee was pronounced deceased on the scene. The autopsy indicated the cause of death to be traumatic (compression) chest asphyxia caused by the file cabinet.

There have been thirteen work related deaths reported to MIOSHA so far in 2025 as of June 20.
