Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Preliminary necropsy results show some of the seven dead dogs found in a freezer behind the Parlour of Jackson suffered injuries consistent with trauma.

Jackson County Animal Shelter Director Lydia Sattler says four of the dogs were emaciated or had signs of abuse, including broken ribs and matted fur. One appeared to have been attacked by another dog. Only four dogs were tested, as they could be linked to the person who operated the freezer. Three others were puppies with undetermined causes of death.

The case is still under review, and findings will be sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The former operator of The Parlour denies putting the animals in the freezer. The current owner, Scott Pienta, says the garage where the freezer was found was full of the previous operator’s items. He’s since reported the discovery to authorities and says the restaurant remains open and in full compliance with health regulations.
