JACKSON, Mich. – Jackson County Animal Shelter says teamwork made a big difference last week as they assisted in removing 61 small dogs from a single home. Fifty-nine of those dogs – along with one very friendly cat – were safely taken into custody on Thursday according to the shelter’s Facebook page.
Officials say the rescue was possible thanks to collaboration from organizations across the state, volunteers, adopters, and supporters who help give animals a second chance.
That spirit of teamwork carried into a special free adoption event held on Saturday. In just three hours, 35 pets found responsible homes. Four adult dogs are still available at no cost to approved adopters, each waiting for the right match.
Shelter staff say the day was not only about saving animals, but also honoring the legacy of a longtime contributor and volunteer. They add that helping animals is never a one-person job – it’s about communities working together to change lives, one beating heart at a time.
