Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — After almost a year following the proposed closing date for the sale of the former T.A. Wilson school building for $150,000 to Residents In Action, the Jackson nonprofit was able to show Jackson City Council the necessary funds to complete the purchase. Founder and C.E.O. Tashia Carter made the announcement during the citizen comment portion of the meeting along with other R.I.A. members who were also in attendance.
Jackson City Manager Jonathan Greene described it as a “happy surprise” and gave his thoughts on what the final closure of the sale will bring to the community.
The City is also applying for the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, and City Manager Greene gave details on how the City is approaching the process.
City Council also approved the construction of four houses by Norfolk Homes that are MICH homes, and are to be sold at no cost with no strings attached. Past Jackson City Council meetings are able to be viewed on the City’s website and YouTube page.
