Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was held on Thursday morning for The McDaniel Apartments at Andy’s Place on W. Michigan Avenue. The newly completed development adds 26 affordable apartments and recovery services aiming to help expectant families overcoming opioid addiction.
Shortly before the ribbon cutting, those in attendance heard from community leaders, recovery advocates, public officials, and a few residents about the positive impact that the properties have had and will continue to have on people recovering from substance abuse.
Mark McDaniel, President and CEO of Cinnaire and the man who the apartments are named after, said that while opioid addiction recovery methods fail more than 90% of the time nationally, Andy’s Place has a recidivism rate of under 4%. He thanked the people who helped make this expansion possible.
State Representative Kathy Schmaltz spoke about how investment at the state level in Andy’s Place, and other Permanent Recovery Supportive Housing initiatives, is crucial for providing support and hope.
Jackson County Commission Chairman James Shotwell celebrated the collaborative effort between county leadership and Andy’s Angels founder Mike Hirst.
Multiple residents also spent some time on the microphone before the ribbon cutting, detailing how recovery housing has helped them get back on track for the betterment of themselves and their families.
Residents at The McDaniel Apartments will have access to the full suite of wraparound services offered at Andy’s Place. That includes peer recovery coaching, on-site behavioral health services, a resource center and community room, and outdoor gathering spaces.
