Parma Township, Mich. (WKHM) — A massive solar farm in western Jackson County is nearly ready to start powering homes. The Jackson County Solar Project, a 125-megawatt installation developed by Geronimo Power, is wrapping up construction after breaking ground early this year. The project spans 1,400 acres across eight sites along Callahan Road in Parma Township, near the Calhoun County line. When fully operational, it will generate enough clean energy to power more than 33,000 homes and eliminate over 160,000 metric tons of carbon emissions each year. Geronimo Power says the site will contribute about $1.4 million annually in property taxes to local schools, the township, and the county. Consumers Energy officials say projects like this are a key part of Michigan’s transition away from coal, with a long-term goal of reaching 9,000 megawatts of solar power statewide. The Jackson County Solar Project is expected to come online soon.
