Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Last week, the Michigan House of Representatives unanimously voted in favor of a bill that would enshrine the new budget transparency measures the House put in place this year into state law so that future legislatures must follow them. State Representative Kathy Schmaltz says she was not surprised that this legislation was something that everyone in the House was able to get behind.

The House’s Health Policy Committee heard testimony on how dangerous the world can be for individuals who are blind, in particular with electric vehicles on the road.

The Committee is looking at legislation which would increase penalties for causing injury or death of a blind individual or a service animal in a crosswalk. Rep. Schmaltz also heard testimony as Chair of the Families and Veterans committee in favor of Silver Alerts being allowed in Michigan.
