Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Michigan House of Representatives has recently passed legislation that would give EMS and fire departments access to free opioid antagonists, such as NARCAN, from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. State Representative Kathy Schmaltz discussed her support for the bill on A.M. Jackson this past Friday.

Representative Schmaltz also spoke on the importance of the House approving a bill that would create a Purple Star Program for public schools to support children of military members who frequently change schools due to a parent’s shifting military assignments.

As the self-imposed July 1st deadline for an agreement between the House and Senate on a state education budget looms, Representative Schmaltz acknowledged the frustration of overall budget negotiations feeling drawn out.
