Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A Jackson middle school was briefly placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a threatening prank phone call triggered a police response.

Officials say the Middle School at Parkside went into lockdown around 1:15 p.m. after an apparent “swatting” incident — when someone falsely reports a violent threat to prompt a heavy law enforcement response.

The Jackson Police Department quickly arrived and determined the call was a hoax. Assistant Superintendent Kriss Giannetti said the lockdown was lifted around 1:40, and that the district policy mandates a lockdown anytime a threat is received.

Police Chief Christopher Simpson says the case may be linked to another threatening call made to Parkside back on April 15. That call also forced the school into lockdown, while other schools in the district were put into secure mode.

Simpson noted both calls sounded similar and may have come from the same female voice. The investigation is ongoing.
