Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Sylvan Learning is celebrating 35 years of serving the Jackson community by helping local students find academic and overall success by providing supplemental education to meet growing demand for personalized learning.
They have recently been recognized as one of Michigan’s 50 Companies to Watch by Michigan Celebrates Small Business. Jessica Rollins has owned the center in Jackson, located on 3343 Spring Arbor Road. since 2017. Rollins now owns a total of eleven centers in the state. She began her journey with Sylvan Learning as a teacher in 2002, and has been involved in leadership with the center since 2009.
Rollins says that along with assisting students with their bookwork, Sylvan Learning educators know that a student’s mental health is crucial to academic success.
Rollins laid out the benefits that in-person supplemental education Sylvan provides over similar programs that are hosted online and only offer feedback through curriculum.
When it comes to engagement with Jackson, Rollins believes that an atmosphere driven by community is key to the long-term success for both Sylvan Learning and for its students. She says that being able to see the positive impact Sylvan has had on its former students is always a treat.
Rollins says that summer is a time where most students will fall back a bit academically, so it can be as good of a time as ever for families to schedule an appointment to tour the facility, set up an evaluation to see where a student is at, or to jump right in to tutoring sessions. Their phone number is (517) 787-9180.
