WKHM sat down with Jackson County Commission Chair Steve Shotwell to discuss some of the things happening around the county.

Shotwell said that the board will be meeting next Tuesday at 7pm, and they’ll be getting the budget process underway. “We’ll be making the beginning of our budget presentation, we’ll see where our revenue is coming from and we’ll be watching where our expenses are going. We’ve got two new millage that come into effect and also the mental health millage comes into effect also.” Chairman Shotwell said.

Also, a Hazardous Waste dump day is coming to the fairgrounds. With construction underway, there is an alternate entrance for you to use. “You’ll have to come in off of Blackstone with the construction started on the Convention Center. There will be a $5 charge, and the Household Hazardous Waste will open at 9 (and run) until 2, and if you are in line by 2, they’re going to work with you to make sure you get through the line.” Shotwell said. Hazardous Waste is considered to be things around the house like paint cans, bug spray, and the like. Shotwell mentioned that it does not include tires, as there may be a separate day for residents to dispose of that.
