Jackson, Mich. — With the first chance of big snow coming Jackson County this Christmas Weekend, Jackson County Commission Chairman Steve Shotwell told WKHM the County Road crews are ready.

“Our salt barns are filled like they’re supposed to be… we have our road chloride ready to be put down in liquid form, so there’ll be some pre-treating that’ll be done,” said Shotwell. “The county has been updating all of our snow plow systems for 94/127 with the State of Michigan so we have the equipment to take care of it, we have enough diesel fuel…”

Shotwell says while they have enough operators for the equipment, it would be nice to have more.

Jackson County will plan to follow the standard protocol of clearing primary roads first when the snow hits, followed by secondary feeders, and probably won’t get into neighborhoods until later on in the afternoon, according to Shotwell. He anticipates this being a typical December snow event for Michigan.

While it’s still too early to predict solid snowfall amounts, the National Weather Service calls for the snow to begin Thursday, December 22, mixed with rain. Stay tuned to WKHM – Jackson’s NewsTalk 970AM/101.5FM for the latest weather updates.
