Jackson, Mich., August 25, 2023 (WKHM) — A new roundabout sculpture was unveiled Friday afternoon at the center of S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the City of Jackson.

“The Tower of Us/We Rise” by Maxwell Emcays is an illuminated 30-foot sculpture depicting individuals standing on each other’s shoulders forming a tower. The City says this represents how community support can help with overcoming adversity. The piece was selected by the City Council earlier this year after a public engagement effort with south side residents from the Public Arts Commission.

Emcays, a Chicago-based artist, spoke at the unveiling along with City officials.

Aaron Dimick, Public Information Officer for the City of Jackson, says “This roundabout and sculpture is a gateway to the MLK Drive corridor and is the start of more exciting improvements on the way for the south side neighborhood.”
