29-year-old Ian Pritchard died Saturday at Henry Ford Hospital after a months-long battle with blastomycosis, a rare fungal infection that he contracted just before Thanksgiving 2023. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the fungus usually lives in moist soil and decomposing plant matter such as wood and leaves. Doctors said he was in critical condition and a lung transplant offered him the best chance at survival. Pritchard was a beloved chef at a Mexican restaurant in Harbor Springs called Rodrigo’s.
