(PHOTO: City of Jackson) The City of Jackson will being their spring fire hydrant flushing today, April 23rd. Flushing will start in the Southwest Section of the City and will finish in the Northeast Section approximately three weeks later. Flushing will take place from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The city has provided a map of the schedule.

The city reports that the hydrant flushing is needed to remove iron and sediment from the water mains. They also report that the flushing will not effect water quality, but will discolor the water temporarily. The water is safe to drink; however residents are urged to refrain from washing laundry near the areas of flushing to avoid clothing discoloring. Residents may also experience a drop in water pressure, or a loss of water temporarily near the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area where flushing is occurring if possible, or drive slowly through spots where water has collected.
